Pool & Snooker Club

Birmingham

OVERVIEW

Our mission as a club is to provide a safe and fun environment that welcomes students of all abilities who have the ambition to improve their skills.

ABOUT US

Aston University’s Pool & Snooker Club is a growing club at Aston University, with this past year being a particularly momentous one in terms of tournament results; our largest club membership to date (52 members); an increased female inclusion within club events and tournaments representing the university; and an amplified club awareness amongst students both online and offline.

Our mission as a club is provide a safe and fun environment that welcomes students of all abilities who have the ambition to improve upon their pool and snooker skills. Through participation in our club activities, our members can also work on personal development such as teamwork, social skills, hand-eye coordination, accuracy, focus, strategic and critical thinking.

The 2018/19 season has now ended and the club are proud to have been shortlisted for many of the top awards at the Aston Students’ Union Awards Night. Our shortlisted nominations included:
• Club of the Year
• Most Improved Club of the Year
• Committee of the Year
• Sporting Achievement of the Year

The past year has been an exciting one for the club, with our highlight being our Men’s 1st team achieving 3rd place in the Team Shield and achieving promotion at the BUCS-UPC Eight Ball Championship, the biggest university pool competition in the UK. We also had 2 of our members reaching the last 32 in the BUCS-UPC Women’s Eight Ball Individual Championships.

Off the back of an exciting year for the club, our vision for the coming season is to build upon and continue the club’s success through the major BUCS tournaments and other university-organised tournaments across the country. Another important goal the club have is to continue its growing female membership and inclusion at tournaments. The 2019/20 season will hopefully see the club continue to enter teams at the BUCS pool, snooker and 9-ball tournaments, as well as various non-BUCS tournaments.

WHAT WE OFFER

- Advertisement at Freshers Fair
Our club has its own stand at Freshers Fair on 17th September 2019. All freshers are invited to come along to see what clubs and societies there are at Aston – this is one of the busiest events of Freshers Week and we have a high interactivity with students both online and offline. There will be space on our stand to promote sponsors if you’re able to supply any promotional materials and merchandise.

- Logo featured on the club’s profile page on the Aston Students’ Union website
Our club has its own profile page on the Students’ Union website which contains information about our club, with space to thank our sponsors. This page is very frequently used as we direct all potential members to this profile page in order to sign up to become official members, and throughout the year this page is used when our members buy tickets for events and order club clothing.

- Logo featured on all visuals advertising club events and activities
The club use many visuals, both online and offline, to promote the club and different events and activities throughout the year. These include, but are not restricted to, our Freshers Fair flyers, club flyers for university open days and various advertisements for events throughout the year (such as club member tournaments and club vs club tournaments).

- Advertisements on our club’s social media & members mailing list
The club have Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, with our most frequently used social media (Facebook & Instagram) gaining a typical reach of 500 people and many of our main posts surpass this. We would share any events and company posts with our members via social media, as well as our members email list. We will ensure members attend events whenever possible, with the opportunity to help organise/run an event (e.g. pool tournament/coaching workshop).

- Logo featured on club hoodies
Your company logo will be featured on our hoodies which most of our club members will purchase in October and wear all year. Our members wear them all year round and are specifically encouraged to wear them at tournaments when we play against other universities, which includes our largest tournament of the year with over 700 students competing from over 40 universities in the UK. Pictures from all events are shared across our social media as well as positive tournament achievements being shared across Aston Students’ Union social media and mailing list. Our Men’s 1st team most recently achieved 3rd place in their Team Shield, gaining promotion to a higher competition for 2020 – pictures of our team were promoted nationally!

Funds Required

We aim to make it as affordable as possible for all our members to ensure no one is excluded.

For everything we can offer to a company, we're looking for £750.
